The Professional Yoga Therapist Program is a complete course in the theory and practice of Yoga Therapy with a focus on the use of yoga as a true healing art that can be applied in a wide variety of health conditions.
Level I of the PYT program is a 500 hour program with four components:
1. A 200 hour yoga teacher certification that meets Yoga Alliance RYT-200 standtards. This can be in the form of Yoga Alliance registered program, or documented equivalent (200 hours).
2. The PYT two-week Foundation Training, given in the United States March 30-April 12, 2008. (130 hours).
3a. Two one-week Professional Specialization Programs in the United States or Brazil (see our schedule page for dates) (65 hours each, or 130 hours) OR
3b. The two-week Yoga Therapy in Practice Training, given at our center in Brazil May 9-22 2008 (130 hours).
4a. Chapter 1 of the PYT Internship, conducted in your home community (50 hours) OR
4b. One additional Professional Specialization Program (50-65 hours) OR
4c. The IYT Clinical Assistantship May 23-30, 2008 at Enchanted Mountain Center in Brazil (50 hours).
Level I of the PYT program is registered as an advanced 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training Program by the Yoga Alliance program certifying
Yoga Therapists to work in a wide variety of mainstream settings,
including hospitals and health care
Graduates will also have the skills, tools, and a framework for developing a private yoga therapy practice. This training program prepares students to work with specific populations such as cancer and heart disease and is intended to prepare yoga professionals to define the entire field of Yoga Therapy as it evolves into a recognized profession.
